Novali "Nova" Song thought drowning would be painful. Spoiler alert: It is.
 
On one frankly boring day, Nova had the unfortunate luck of experiencing drowning. And guess what? Another spoiler alert: It was 100% her fault. 

Really, if she hadn't wandered into the ocean in the middle of the night like she did, she would have been a perfectly normal, blissfully oblivious teen like all the other teens in the world. How dumb could she get?

But would she have rather lived her life clueless but happy on the shores of the Earth, or would she have rather plunged into the dark waters of the ocean and have gotten to know the secrets of the sea?

Honestly, with all the near-death experiences and countless moments of paralyzing fear, Nova would have just preferred to stay on land, thank you very much. Too bad she didn't get a choice.

It also helps the reader to really see into the minds of Arizona and Nova as they age, and the effect different life events have on them.
