Thomas, a young Canadian soldier in World War II, is travelling back to his home in Saskatchewan. As a nurse tends to his wounds aboard the boat, he reflects upon his experiences in Hong Kong, and grieves his dead friend, Theo. Questioning how he will ever be able to get over the horrors, Thomas discovers that the nurse understands where he is coming come. It appears that she herself is grieving Theo as much as he is. I close my eyes tightly, feeling the dirt spit on my face harshly. The feeling of my body landing on the floor, I place my hand on my side feeling the wetness of blood, my eyes averting to the sky. Seeing the dark clouds turmoil while I close my eyes, accepting death if it comes for me choosing. Raul Guerrero is a fresh soldier out of camp fighting in the trenches of 'The Great War', during his time there he will have to face the glorifying life in the trenches and how he will have to go through discrimination for being Mexican-American. Will he survive to come home to his family with honor or die in the hands of his allies-enemies among his brothers?
