The chamber of secrets have opened and the new teacher Gilderoy Lockhart believes he has solved the mystery of who the Heir of Slytherin is (after overhearing Ron Weasley).
It's Draco Malfoy, duh.
Lockhart decides to rearrange Malfoy's feelings to stop the attacks, and Hermione Granger is supposed to be the love interest. He can already see his new book being written about him saving Hogwarts with only "love". (Totally a best seller.)
However Lockhart screws up while brewing this advanced potion (surprise surprise). He ends up drugging 12 year old Draco with a love potion meant for giants, and also mistakenly gets Harry Potter as the love interest.
Draco isn't even old enough for a love potion to work (sorry Lockhart). The feelings change slightly but it's only when Draco goes through puberty and a major event occurs, that the love potion starts taking full effect. He suddenly falls explosively in love with his biggest enemy. A love that doesn't disappear after the potion stops working or when their love becomes dangerously deadly.
