ar Tobe Hooper, co-written and produced by Steven Spielberg and released in 1982. This is the first and most famous film of the film trilogy Poltergeist. Located in a suburb of California, the plot focuses on a family whose home is invaded by evil ghosts who try to kidnap the youngest of the family.

The film is in the 80th position of the 100 Scariest Movie Moments and Chicago Film Critics Association named it the 20th scariest film ever made1. The film also appeared at the 84th position of the AFI's 100 Years ... 100 Thrills, the list of the most thrilling films in America. Poltergeist has also been nominated for three Oscars.

The Poltergeist franchise is considered by some to be cursed because of the untimely death of several people associated with the film, a notion that has been the subject of an E! True Hollywood Story2.
