The scent of rusted metal so poignant that it leads to suffocation. The abnormal wails of the creatures so vibrant and constant that it turns normal. The sense of danger so palpable that the "fight-or-flight" instinct is sent into overdrive.
The human mind is an interesting organ. So interesting, in fact, that we still don't know its total capabilities. They say that humans can't ever achieve use of 100% of their brain but that as we progress we will have tapped into larger capabilities than today. Scientists could never have predicted this. They were always focused on advancement. So clouded with the need to create. The need to invent. They never truly stopped to think about the Janus that nature is.
It can only ever be a mad scientist, perhaps like Frankenstein, who created such a deadly weapon. A weapon so strong that it has its own delivery system. A bullet that comes as a shock. A bomb that can't be disarmed. And soon we would find out how royally screwed we were.

The Wildfire Virus. That's the illness the eggheads have called dubbed that has spread alarmingly fast all over the world. No could figure out at first how and where it came from or how even spread so quickly. I was on leave, visiting brother in Boston when the infection hit. Yesterday, the world was normal with its own conflicts. The next, millions get sick, hospitals are overwhelmed, and any sort of space was converted into a makeshift hospital to handle all the sick. On day 2 the sick died and awoke attacking the living. I tried to get out of the city, but the military closed off every major access point and now I'm trapped within, along with millions of undead.
