Skylar or ''Muted Girl'' (As her school likes to call her) is what you would call a nerd, most people think nerds live boring lives with no secrets, but Skylar does have secrets, her secret is that she has no mother, and an abusive father that wont let her talk at school, wont let her make friends, and wont let her fall in love. She is only allowed to stay in school if she follows those rules and keeps her grades up. But what happens when a guy named Jacob comes to town and has good looks, money, smarts, and has an interest in the ''Muted Girl''
