When the moon rises, Princess Belle Du Bois is no longer a princess. At night, she steals away to her workshop hidden in the castle’s dudgeon. She is a mechanic − A ticking pocket watch at her hip, the warmth of a lamp glowing between her fingers, the hiss of hot metal in water. These are her true loves. Her talents are a secret to everyone, except perhaps the legendary Beast that is said to stalk the dungeons below the West Wing. Belle’s brother, the soon-to-be king, is kidnapped, and the only way to save him is to invent a mechanism even more powerful than magic. With the help of the enigmatic Captain Adam Girouard and a team of Delusionists, addicts of a tiny, scarlet flower— a drug called Delusion — who stalk the catacombs that run like veins beneath the city, Belle leads a team to bring her brother back. As Belle and Adam draw closer, they learn that the strength of love can tame a beast and shape a princess into a hero.

Everyone knows the story of Beauty and the Beast, but no one's heard the story like this. Young Bella lived a simple life. She worked as an apprentice to Larissa, the best medical doctor in their small town. Too soon though, things start to crumble around her. An officer appears, nearly begging her to enter the Choosing. Her childhood friend appears, announcing more than just his presence when he sees her again. Just when things start to seem normal again, the Beast attacks; claiming that the Choosing is no longer enough and he wants Bella. Can she make it out alive? Is there more to the Beast than just a killing machine with no regard for the life of others?
