We both sat in a comfortable silence before J.T. spoke, "Has anyone ever told you that you're sort of...beautiful?"

My head snapped back to look at him and he was staring at me so much intensity in his beautiful blue eyes it made it hard to breathe, "Stop." I shrug off his compliment.

Has anyone ever told me I was beautiful?

No.

"You must not look at yourself the way you look at others... you are beautiful, Alana."

Inclined by her ambitious parents' advice, Clementine Cruz is forced to spend her six weeks off school in Mallorca. She hates the idea of being limited to one expectation for such an extended period of time. Nothing has ever been able to demand her attention enough. Regardless of the fact, she is expected to wish time away at a prestige beach resort. In a foreign country. As a lifeguard. Problem is, she can't swim. As if the fact isn't bad enough, she is assigned to be taught lessons from the broody and notoriously rebellious Angel Delgado who only agrees to help her in exchange for one thing. Her undivided attention. ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ ⃗ Angel takes a step into my space, leaving our chests only mere inches away from each other. "You, Clementine, are loud-" He takes another step forward, forcing me to take one backward. "-nosey-" Another step. "and ignorant." He takes one last step and I feel my back hit the wall. I almost think that he may begin to start jabbing at my chest like I did to him but then he hooks his finger around my necklace and slightly tugs at it so that my head is no longer resting on the wall. "You don't listen to instructions-" He tugs me closer. "-you think you're so funny with your smartass-" Another tug. "and you think that you can one-up me in every single situation." He tugs at my necklace again leaving his lips to hover a quarter of a centimetre away from mine. I close my eyes as he closes the gap. It is not a kiss, merely a brush of lips as he whispers into my mouth, "So I don't fucking like you."

Twelve years ago, he drove away with my heart in his hands. I've moved on since then. Or so I thought. Growing up in a small town, there weren't too many options when it came to friends. But, even in a sea of a million, I'd always choose Jake Jameson. I felt safe with him. Safe with my secrets, my dreams and eventually - my heart. I thought we'd have forever together. That was a long time ago. I thought I'd forgotten those piercing blue eyes and the sound of his laugh. I tried to obliterate the memory of his touch from my mind. But, one single glance, as he stands at my door, twelve years later, and I'm suddenly transported back to a simpler time when love was easy, and my heart was whole. The problem? I'm marrying his best friend.
