Other children were told harrowing stories of nights in shining armory, beautiful princesses, conniving dragons. Ayla was told stories of bloodthirsty warriors,  two sides sworn to hate, and war that had raged millennia. 

Ayla couldn't explain why her parents felt that these were the best way to put their 6-year-old to sleep, or why they both so adamantly favored opposite sides of the story, or why she was so drawn to the tale, more than any of the storybooks she had. 

It's not until years after her parents disappear that she finds how deep the roots of this story run, down to the very blood in her veins. Ayla finds herself swept into a world of barbarous warriors, remorseless savages, and vengeful gods, caught in the middle of an ancient war with consequences more terrifying and deadly than she ever imagined, and with a message from the dead to find the one thing that will define the war, the thing that many, good and evil alike, would kill for-- the Eclipsed.
