Driven by his craving for living, human blood and his loyalty to The Blood King, he has had no reason to question. Death himself, is the rival of Rìghfuil, making the Portent also a rival to Jaegar.  When she had asked him for help and he responded, Jaegar's life began to make less sense to him.
