They see good in the world, but don't think they are worth that good. They are always ignored, and accept that. They fail to 'help the world' by disappearing, and instead gets a fresh start in a new town, a new place.
The two have something in common- they are both part of a project. A project to help them get better.
The pair both have tattoos of a firefly on their wrists.
Soon Emily Parker and Josie Rodriguez become fast friends, and are convinced that the both of them are better.
But with the pasts they face, is there really a chance to get better, to heal?
