Because of lack of money and her depression from her father's death, May was kicked out of college and forced to find a living in an old apartment and a bad job at Rusy's Deli and Bar. When Manuel Mendes wanted to spend rest of his life on an Island with his wife, he appointed his one and only son as CEO of Maple Cooperation. Shawn Mendes 23 year old was the youngest CEO the company ever had in past but he had the wisdom of 60 year old men. That's why his father trusted him despite the fact Shawn didn't want to join because he wanted to enjoy his life after finishing MBA degree from University of Pennsylvania. As wealth and goodlooks both came in Shawn's Canadian mixed Portuguese inheritance but something he lacked was a soft heart and emotions. He played in money since his childhood that's why he believed that money can buy him anything because it's an obligation for survival in this world. With the help of the same narrative, he caught an innocent girl who was already victim of this obligation to use her for his own wicked plan.
