Naruto was lonely, but it didn't really phase him seeing as how he was used to the bitter loneliness and isolation he faced everyday in the village. However, it's not as bad as it was back then. Naruto almost gave into his despair back then, he almost vowed revenge and death on those who wrongly judged and persecuted him, but Sasuke saved him. 

Back then, Naruto knew that Sasuke was alone, too. He felt better knowing there was someone like him out there, someone even lonelier than himself. They were both just brats, but looking back their burdens were quiet similar. Naruto with the Nine-Tailed Fox and Sasuke with the fate of the Uchiha clan.

It was ironic, and as much as the dark haired raven hated to admit it, he felt it too. In fact, nearly everytime he saw the whiskered boy, all he really wanted to do was to go up to him and start talking. He'd get, sort-of giddy, because he felt like maybe he understood him. But, he never stopped. He never stopped mainly because he was jealous. Unlike the other villagers Sasuke saw the potential and power in Naruto. So instead of exploring his feelings for the boy further, he made him his rival.

Naruto accepted the unspoken challenge and trained alongside the boy he admired most, for the sole purpose of being more powerful than him. He never quite understood back then that he didn't actually want the Uchiha's power... he wanted his approval. His acceptance.

From that day on, Sasuke was Naruto's goal. Everyday he woke up thinking about him, trained to recapture him, and slept dreaming of him.

Sasuke was Naruto's will to live. His will to fight. He was his will of fire!

Sasuke pierced Naruto's right shoulder with his Chidori technique. My story deviates from the canon series because Naruto's wound was not immediately healed by the Nine-Tails. Also, Naruto didn't go into his initial junchūriki form, as he refused to use the Nine-Tails chakra. The story starts with Naruto recovering from that fight in the hospital. Afterward, he is sent on a 2-year mission with his sensei Kakashi Hatake. As they travel together, their bonds grow stronger until they eventually learn about each other's true feelings. (Yaoi and violence!) ! - I do not recommend reading this story if you are not familiar with the series. ! - In this story, Naruto starts off as a 17-year-old, not 14 as in the series. !- The story continues until the canon's Pain episodes, so if you haven't seen that yet, there will be spoilers here. !- Yaoi lemon in later chapters. The KakaNaru relationship evolves from teacher/student to friends (bromance) to lovers while they travel together. I started writing this story because I'm a big fan of the Naruto series. However, there have always been two things bothering me. For one, the filler episodes and constant flashbacks of course, and secondly, the lack of relations. For example, Kakashi not caring all too much about Naruto's upbringing even though he is Minato's son. Or the fact that nobody (not even his godfather Jiraiya) adopted Naruto. And don't even get me started on the fact that nobody ever told Naruto anything about his parents, nor did he ever ask... Anyway, the list is long. It's my first time writing fanfiction. Obviously, I do not own Naruto or any other characters from the series/manga. My native language is Dutch, not English, so please try and forgive any spelling mistakes you might find.
