*Title and Cover to be Changed!*
Ophelia Scarlatti has had a difficult life. In and out of foster care from ages three to eight, dealing with her parent's addictions, and handling the loss of her grandmother, she and her brother take guardianship of their youngest siblings, where she is quick to talk to a recruiter about joining the Army. Once sworn in, she is flown to Oklahoma, where she begins training. In week two of her training, the world stops.
A deadly virus breaks out, only adding to the ever present reality that 97.9% of the population was wiped out.
Separated from her brothers and sister, Scarlatti befriends her Drill Sergeants and a fellow trainee, and they devise a plan to get Stone home, and search for the rumored "safe havens" in unharmed military bases. Armed only with what they can carry, the unlikely allies make their way to Stone's hometown, over 500 miles away. What they find can only be described as wreckage and leads to heartache.
The child population is at an all time low because of the increases of deadly diseases. Gangs start to rise up to use boys and girls for their own personal gain until Amber Stevenson, a 16 year-old girl from Georgia, witnesses her mother get sick and her father get shot in front of her as she is captured by one of the gangs. The gang that captured her, which are known as The WildFires, are known to be brutal and abusive to their victims. She finds friends in the warehouse but 3 months later, she is on a journey to find her brother and send him away for his own safety and go to Los Angeles to join the rebellion with the girl that once hated her and the first friend she made in the warehouse. Along the way, they discover the truth of why they have the abilities they have, the reason behind The WildFires, and what the labs that put them through hell has actually done. As romances grow and situations start to evolve, the only question on her mind is can she save the only family she has left?
