"You don't belong here, so take your ugly fat ass back to where you came from!" Malissa barks and takes my hair in her hands and sakes me around. I flail around like a rag doll until she shoves my head to the side and laughs at me with her friends snickering behind her.
When they leave the only thing I do is stay sitting on the ground in embarrassment and cry with my head in my hands.

REMINISCENT
I frowned, thrown off "Do i...remember?" "Do you remember..." she starts but her voice falters. She glances down at the sand, biting her lip debating whether to even continue. She then takes a shaky breath and finally looks up. Eyes locking with mine " do you even remember how you got it?" Her question hits me like a slap. I open my mouth, then close it, my brows furrowing as I force my brain to rewind. How did I get it? Nothing. Not a single clear memory. She steps closer, her voice trembling, but the edge of anger sharpening her words. "Or when? Or where? Or for what reason? Or what it even means?!" I flinch at her tone, but I can't answer her. I try. God, I try.. I look down at the sand beneath my feet, forcing myself to dig through every memory, every hazy night out, every stupid decision I might've made-but nothing. Not a single moment of how I got it surfaced. I let out a frustrated breath and rake a hand through my hair, feeling the panic rise like bile in my throat. When I finally lift my head to speak, Ashley's already staring at me, and I can tell-she knows my answer before I say a word. Runawaying from Redshore city wasn't my plan but I felt trapped in that city. You never could make it unless you had connections or were from a famous family and that's not how I wanted it to go. I love to sing and my best friend got me into dance. Now I love going with the flow and letting the music take over my body. I ran away from my home with nothing but my skateboard, guitar and a back full with anything I could shove inside of it. Now I live in a studio apartment, making my own songs with choreography for them and casually posting the audio of the song or the actual dance video on the internet because why not. I work at a skate shop to help pay my bills and to stay out of trouble with the police since I've gotten in trouble with them a couple of times for street performing without a license. But like my best friend used to say, "You're only in trouble if you get caught" and I never did, so now I just chat up with them to pass some time or to help someone. When I heard of a singing competition I thought it couldn't hurt.
