The Lone Dove #1

Love and Trust are two very important ideals, but what happens when the moment you lose the two most important people in the world and are left with an inheritance, and a company you find you cannot trust anyone else with. That is Poppy Parker's predicament. My predicament as a teenager that breaks tradition at Queen City high school, both a shadow and the subtle centre of attention.

That was the dangerous part.

My inheritance placed me in the most precarious of positions, finding managers to trust, finding school to be complicated and not for the tasks at hand, but because my closest friends knew next to nothing about my family. The Parker name. Its a common name, a common label...not a title, not a legacy. I am the last legacy, it's my birthright to live up to this name. The Elite at this high school find her shadows worth following, worth connecting with, worth trying to understand...that is the last thing she wanted. I'm a private person, I was raised to be that way. My best friends were always kept at an arm's length, only told what they needed to know, not all that they could know. The Elite interfere with this line of safety.

What happens when they get too close?

What happens when my shadows reveal my secrets, making my friends question my absence at school, my authority over professors, and my power over the elite themselves?

It all burns down in flames.

"He likes your curves. Rightfully claims you as his... in his mind." Asher now speaks staring at the golden boy. I carefully peek through my lashes to find him still looking at me. "Are you jealous?" I dare to ask. He sits back at the wall staring at me. He runs his eyes down my body and slowly smirks. "Yes," "Good," I say digging my fork into the pasta. I then place the pasta into the carrots... Playing with my food. I have been scolded for this many times when I was back in the Ordinary world. Now there is no one to do that for me. Asher comes closer to me and I could sense the burnt wood in him. I smile as he wraps his arms around me. "Your mine. Only I can look at you that way. Only I can touch you. Only I can kiss you. Understand?" He asks me. I nod. He places a kiss on my lips and a kiss on my collarbone. "Good," I peek at my lashes again to find golden boy looking elsewhere. Sixteen-year-old "model Christian" LeAnna Daniels is rooted in God's Word. She knows she's His Child. There's nothing she can't handle with His help. She knows every rule there is to know in the Bible. She knows exactly how to witness. Or so she thinks. Then her family takes in Rita, a wild, reckless fifteen-year-old who was orphaned and placed in foster care at the age of seven. Rita tests LeAnna in ways she never thought God would test her in. When Rita makes a terrible decision and pays the consequences, all LeAnna wants to do is scream at her, and she doesn't understand why. It's a lesson she never thought she would ever need. It's a lesson on how to love someone. Fifteen-year-old "juvenile delinquent" Rita MacKenzie is mad at the world. It's not hard to see why. A fire killed her parents when she was seven, she was separated from her siblings, and a lifetime of trauma and abuse follows her. Then she's sent to what the judge calls her last shot before shes shipped to juvie. And possibly her last chance at a family. No one wants a teenager, after all. She hates it. Strict parents and a foster sister who's constantly trying to shove religion down her throat might just be the last straw for her. But just as she begins to learn that their love- and God's love- has no strings attached, a terrible mistake has her questioning everything, especially God's love. It's a lesson Rita's been neglecting for years. It's a lesson on how to accept love, especially when you know you don't deserve it.

After an accident in eighth grade, Louisa Kelley was blind. Every day was a struggle for her as she tried to adjust to life both at school and at home, but life got easier with practice. As soon as Louisa entered high school, things had changed for the worse. The students around her bullied her because she was different, harassing her, stealing her things, and talking about her behind her back, making an already difficult life so much harder. Now in her junior year of high school, Louisa is broken and without anyone to call a friend. She eventually decides to remove herself from the bullies that surround her daily and be home schooled. That is, until she met Alex. Alex Mirren was born deaf, but when he was six years old, he received a cochlea implant that allowed him to hear. Even after the ten years of speech therapy where he had to teach himself how to hear, Alex prefers to stay in the silence and only communicates with the world when necessary. Life seemed dull to him as he was stuck in between two worlds of silence and noise, not knowing his purpose or place in society. That is, until he saw a girl with a walking stick in the hallways. Louisa and Alex weren't made for each other. Although the very presence of each other gives them new hope and strength, things are difficult as Louisa thrives by using her hearing, while Alex shies away from sound and uses sight. Without being able to communicate easily, they must learn to overcome the barrier of the silence between them, which is easier said than done. But aren't the struggles worth it to be with that one person that means everything?

When Nebraska decided to sacrifice herself to save the people she loved, she didn't expect to wake up and find out almost everything about her changed. Her hair, her eyes, her speed, and her appetite. She then realizes that not only is she no longer human, but she has to spend the rest of her life living with two vampires. One of them annoys her to the point where she wants to stab herself, the other has anger issues that make her want to avoid him. To add to that, she also has to endure their 'training' to teach her how to use her abilities wisely. If that wasn't stressful enough, those two didn't exactly tell her how many hunters and vampires alike wanted them dead. It's a kill or be killed life Nebraska got herself stuck in, and she's not sure if she'll be ready to stake whoever comes her way.
