A flash backward and forward storyline about African American girl Melanine prepares to risk her life changing moment to try a new bleaching cream to get rid of her own black skin that she hates and calls it a "burden". Before she does that, she takes a look at the mirror and goes back to her painful childhood memories that cause her to be the way she is, she questions whether she should change herself or, accept the melanin-e of her skin.

This story is a coming of age story about womanhood, and learing about loving yourself no matter what others think of you.
