ThumpThumpThumpThump. ThumpThumpThumpThump. It's her heartbeat. Sophie Neils heartbeat. All by her lonesome, her nightmares are coming to life. Surrounded by ghosts of people she used to love, and monsters that are more fact that fiction. ThumpThumpThumpThump. ThumpThumpThumpThump. Everything is blurring as she runs, tears pouring from her eyes as she desperately tries to escape. She hears a growl, he's getting closer. ThumpThumpThumpThum- She's tackled to the ground, her heartbeat no longer pounding in her ears. Instead all she hears is growling. She closes her eyes for a final time, seeing her family as they used to be but only for a second. It doesn't take long before they're all dead, and she sees mangled lifeless bodies. They didn't have a hero, neither will she, no knight in shining armor. She will now join them and be just another obituary in a newspaper no one will read. This monster will kill her. Four years ago, Catherine Louise Rossum left town-and Jake Nicholson behind. Once her best friend, he's now Ashcliffe Crescent High's golden boy, untouchable and magnetic. She's the girl who disappeared like a ghost and returned six blocks away, feeling like a stranger in her own story. But time changes people, and Catherine is no exception. The question is: will it pull her and Jake back together-or push them further apart? "He's not the boy she left. She's not the girl he remembers".
