Voldermort rose in Draco Malfoy's 3rd. At the end of the year. They did not know why or how or what happened. They had been attempting it, Draco knew despite his father's tight lips. Yet, the process had not gone as planned. It was the soul from the diary that had returned, not the 20-odd year old that they had been expecting. This came with...complications. 

Tom Riddle was 16. Ideally, he would go to hogwarts in order to recruit those that would remain loyal to only him. Sure he had the remnants that his older self had recruited, but Tom did not know them, and furthermore, he doubted the viability of many of them. So he uses them, but he wants more loyal followers, and as such he needs to go to Hogwarts. Quite a decent foundation for such things. 

Using the young Draco Malfoy, molding him, grooming him, he would fool Albus Dumbledore, gain access to Hogwarts, and then he would begin his recruitment process. If he found his mate, became a bit too attached (obsessed) , and started another feud, well all part of the process he supposed. There were other issues as well. With Remus Lupin, the werewolf, still teaching, and the favoritism amongst the students, they had some work to do, but it was nothing Tom couldn't handle.All Rights Reserved

The students who were in their last 2 years of school when the battle began were invited back 3 years later to finish their studies (think of it as straight away if you don't want to think of it as 3 years later, the whole school kid thing makes me cringe so I'm going for a bit more of a uni thing). Y/n Riddle was adopted by Voldemort years prior to be brought up and used as a weapon to get close to Harry while they were at school together. Harry and y/n ended up falling for each other, y/n went behind her fathers back to help the Order but Harry found out who her father is and swore he'd never have anything to do with y/n ever again. Y/n went back to the dark side and ultimately played a part in the dark sides down fall. The students who were recruited as death eaters while at Hogwarts weren't sent to Askaban Prison as they were children and the ministry believed that they should have a second chance. However, attending Hogwarts 3 years later was made compulsory for those students- if they refused then Askaban was their only other option. A few never renounced their ways due to their families but y/n, Blaise Zabini, Pansy Parkinson, Draco Malfoy, Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley and Ginny Weasley all went back including a few other students that we'll meet through out. So while it got closer to the last task Harry was real close friends with Barty and they had already brought Voldemort back to his former glory of Tom Riddle. Tom and Barty had found out that Harry was Tom's accidental Horcrux they couldn't really fix it without killing Harry and as it was they both thought of him as their family. So when that last task arrived Harry didn't take the cup but Cedric did and he had won while Harry and Barty had 'mysteriously' disappeared. They both arrived with there things in front of Gringott's with Tom already waiting on them and this is where the story begins.

If not a normal childhood there's still a chance for a normal youth. But they have demons in their past and their future. No matter how much they repress their demons, they would always haunt them. After all the heirs to The Dark Lord don't get to have a normal life. No rest for the wicked. ********************** I promise you this story is better than how it seems.
