It may be a small town.
But it has its many secrets.

Ashlee was fine. She had finished cutting both carrots and put the pieces in a bowl.

"Ashlee?"

She was startled and spun around. When she saw that it was me, she relaxed.

"Brandon. What are you doing here? I thought that you were a robber. Unless...you are one."

I was embarrassed by the intrusion and rubbed the back of my neck. "This is awkward," I said.

She pulled open a top drawer and picked up a fork. "Did you need something? Or are you here for some carrots?" She motioned to her bowl of carrot pieces.

As much as I wanted to tell what I saw - or what I thought that I saw - I did not want her to consider me a crazy person. I apologized for intruding and showed myself out.

But man. Things would have ended differently if I just confessed to her what I saw.

"What reason do I have to lie?" He looked up at me with squinted eyes. "Hmm, Maybe because YOU KIDNAPPED ME?" I yelled at him, throwing whatever was closest to me, which happened to be the plate I had just eaten off of. The plate missed his head but hit the wall behind him with a thump, it shattered to pieces onto the couch, food splattering all over. His eyes glazed over with anger. "Did you just throw that at my head?" He asked in a scary calm tone. I gulped, "Maybe if you weren't such an asshole I wouldn't have." I spoke, my voice shaking as much as my body was. "I'm not an asshole!" He yelled at me as he stood to his feet, and in two long strides made his way over to me. He grabbed me by the arms and pushed his face inches away from mine. Wanting to push his buttons, I did the only thing I could think of. "Only an asshole would say that." I told him, my voice low. I was mad and I wanted to see what he would do. He held my arms down. I laughed in his face, "What are you gonna do? Hit me?" I pushed, I wanted to prove a point, I wanted to show him how much of a monster he truly is. He released his grip, "No. No I'm not." He stood up and walked towards the door, running his hands through his hair. I was surprised, but decided to push further, to see how far I could actually push him. "Why not? You've done it before." I pointed out, my confidence growing now that he didn't hit me for that. He leaned on the door frame, his back to me. "Because I can't do it!" He yelled, turning around to face me. He strode towards me, anger fuming off of him. I cowarded away from him, scared he was going to hit me again. But, I wanted him to, just to make a point, but he did something that surprised me a lot more. He kissed me. *** April Hastings, a seemingly normal girl is abducted by her handsome boss. "Tell me. Are you proud?" "Hmm? Proud of what?" Ash said. "Proud that I have opened my eyes to the truth?" "Do not delay the inevitable! Tell me! Are you proud that you doomed your own kind?"
