Joseph Fatu (Solo Sikoa) is a confident, tough teenager with a heart of gold, already known around school for his wrestling skills and close-knit family ties. When Carmen Jackson, a shy but strong-willed girl, moves from London to Florida, she's thrown into the deep end at her new middle school. Her British accent, different style, and soft-spoken demeanour make her an easy target for the local football team's bullies. But Joseph, ever the protector, can't stand to see the new girl being picked on.
When two football players begin to bully Carmen in the hallway, Joseph steps in to defend her. But what starts as a simple act of kindness escalates into an all-out fight when the bullies push too far. Joseph and Carmen are caught in the middle of the altercation, with the school deciding to suspend all involved for a week.
During their time off, Carmen and Joseph bond over shared experiences of being outsiders in their own ways. Carmen finds solace in Joseph's unwavering confidence and the way he protects the people he cares about. Joseph, in turn, finds someone who understands him in a way few others do-someone who sees past the tough exterior and believes in him.
What begins as a friendship rooted in shared rebellion and defiance of the bullies slowly grows into something deeper. Their connection blossoms over time-late-night talks, shared laughter, and the comfort of knowing someone will always have your back.
