Kerarah Louisse Fajardo, a bookkeeper in her town's renowned bookstore, faces constant rejection from suitors who consider her old-fashioned. Her sister Aila's wedding is put on hold due to their father's rigid beliefs. He held the principle that the older sibling must marry before the younger one, an expectation that weighed heavily on Kerarah's younger sister, Aila, who was already engaged to the man his father wanted them to marry. Aila, being the younger, was expected to remain unmarried until Kerarah's marriage was settled.

Cadu Thiago Cavalcante, an ex-convict with a tough demeanor, moves into the same building as Kerarah's family and falls for her instantly. After breaking up with his girlfriend, Jamaila, Cadu tries to communicate his feelings through written notes at the bookstore where Kerarah works, but she repeatedly overlooks them.

In a bid to find a husband instantly, Kerarah secretly seeks a makeover from Jamaila. A misunderstanding leads to Jamaila attacking Kerarah, but Cadu intervenes and gets injured. Their encounter becomes public when a security guard misinterprets the situation, causing Kerarah's father, Klaus, to disown her.

Kerarah's father decreed that she be treated as if she were dead, as punishment for the mistake she didn't intentionally made.
