Esta historia está ambientada en épocas de la segunda guerra mundial.  Narra la vida de un hombre alemán desde su infancia hasta que llega a la edad adulta. Su nombre es Benjamin Meyer. Tuvo una infancia difícil llena de desgracias y situaciones desagradables, una vez que crece, empieza la segunda guerra mundial y con ello, aparecen también los nazis. Benjamin al ser judío, tendrá que esconderse y hacer lo que pueda para que no le capturen.
