𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐞 𝐘𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐝𝐚 has always lived a quiet, happy life. She was an honor roll student, the editor of her school newspaper, and spent her days with her best friends, Jenny and Kathleen. But her world shatters on July 18, 1978, when her twin brother, Bruce, vanished after riding his bike through their neighborhood. As the days turn to months, Susie becomes obsessed with finding him-fearful that he's would be the latest victim of the elusive child abductor known only as "The Grabber." Then, one cold November afternoon, Susie and her classmate, Finney Blake, are snatched off the street and thrown into a soundproof basement. Trapped in the darkness, they soon discover a strange black rotary phone. The line is dead-yet it rings. And when they answer, the voices on the other end are impossible, chilling, and all too real. The voices belong to The Grabber's past victims. And they have one message: escape or die. As time runs out, Susie and Finney must use every clue, every whispered warning from the ghosts of the lost, to outsmart their captor before they join the voices on the other side of the line. But The Grabber is always watching. And this time, he won't let them go so easily. In this world, everyone has the one thing keeping them on their feet, up alive. She was his one and only source of light, source of sanity. Whatever happened to her, his world would come crashing down. Whoever touched or hurt her, he wouldn't hesitate for a second to kill them. He lived in a dark, cut off world while she lived in a world where happiness and love surrounded her. Put together to live in one life, he did everything and anything he possibly could to keep her safe, even when he didn't want to admit how much he loved and cared for her. At fourteen my life was flipped upside down. And not for good. I was held captive for many years. I didn't know the day, year or month it was. I didn't know whether I was far away from home, or beside it. How much of my life had I missed? How much had my kidnapper stolen from me? And would I ever find my family again? I could be anywhere in the world. Yet I would rather be on the streets than anywhere close to him. When I finally escaped I didn't stop going until I couldn't go further.
