Sixteen-year-old Toni Montgomery and her broken-footed best friend, Charlene, are aware that nothing happens in Dollop, Texas during the summertime. It's simply too hot. But when Toni gets hit by a suspicious white van and the man behind the wheel pulls her into his car to take her to the hospital, she discovers there might be entire cities within their reach.
