Ash is pretty decent at pretending to be sociable. He just doesn't have any close relationships where he's comfortable enough to be genuine. He lived most of his life in the city, and he expected life to stay that way until he moved.

Mira likes people, and people like him. He's the kind of guy that fits in because he's nice and adaptable. He's alone at home a lot, but he's got plenty of friends at school.

Two ordinary guys who don't have a bad life at all. Neither expect much more than what they've got from the future, because they feel they're doing pretty good already.

Except they're not. Don't worry, I'll rip their emotional walls a new one eventually.
