Lucy has always treated her life like a game of chess, planning her moves accordingly. So far there wasn’t an obstacle or piece that she couldn’t move around and claim checkmate in the end. No one has been able to match her. That is of course until an incident occurs and she is sent to go live with her cousin Serenity (OC)  in Magnolia. She is then enrolled in Fairy Tail, a high school for the academically gifted students, where she meets Natsu.


Natsu was always an easy-going type of guy who was far smarter than anyone gave him credit for.  He was the kind to live in the moment, but when the situation was dire he was a mastermind strategist. Natsu never had a reason to use his talent in school until the day he met the new girl, Lucy. She challenged him in ways no one has before. Don’t misunderstand it’s not that they don’t like each other, they just want to see who’s the better tactician. 


Join Natsu and Lucy as they go head to head in an intellectual battle to see who is the first to collect all the other’s pieces or claim Checkmate. School AU. Characters may seem a bit OOC. What happens when his past comes back to bite him. Despite all his attempts to hide from his past, one thing sticks out. His childhood best friend. Lucy Hearfilia. She isn't strongly known among the general population but instead, the higher-ups, guild masters. They are the general people who know who she is. She shows up out of the blue to help Natsu, she wasn't there to torment him but rather, help him. Lucy knew the pain of creating a new life and having it on the brink of destruction due to the past. Right under the guilds nose's one of the greatest dark mages helps one of the greatest light mages fight his past. Some would argue that Lucy was truely, superior to zeref. When the council comes knocking on fairy tail's door's demanding them to hand over Natsu Dragneel. Lucy steps in and takes the brunt of the force. All his past came back and would end up destroying him but Lucy knew she couldn't allow that to happen.
