Rylan Gilbert was very unlike her twin sister Elena Gilbert. She had her issues, but she was trying. No one seemed to understand that. Rylan always felt like she was always in Elena's shadow. She was always compared to Elena. She fell off the edge and was sent away to an eating disorders clinic in London. Her parents didn't tell anyone why she was sent away.
