They both knew that this day would most likely come. Once they take her to the doctor, they find out that she does have Lung Cancer. Augustus and Hazel Grace don't know what to do. Emily has 50% chance to live and 50% chance to die. The doctors are basically saying that they really can't do anything for it since it is 50/50 chances but they still will give her treatment.
