He was taller, I noticed. His hair cut shorter than the last time I saw him. His face was still the same though, ready to break into a smile in a second. His eyes were still the same color as melted chocolate, something I had missed from my human life.

"Seth," I began, wanting to reach out to him.

"Gemma." He strategically kept from looking at me directly, breaking my heart even more. "When did you plan on telling me? Were you ever even going to tell me?"

"Seth..." My sentence trailed off because we both knew my answer.

"You know what Gem? I don't want to know, really I don't." His back tensed as he tilted his head back, letting out a sigh through his nose. "Just tell me one thing. Out of everything, all the time we spent together and all the things we said, did you mean any of it?"

"I meant all of it. Every word." My abrupt answer caused him to finally look up at me, brown eyes meeting my golden ones.

Recognition flashed on them as his jaw went slack.

"Every word, Romeo."

*Prologue* --- The moon hung high in the night sky, casting an eerie glow over the dense forest. The pack gathered in a clearing, their eyes fixed on the imposing figure of Alpha Blackthorn. He stood tall, his presence commanding respect and loyalty from every werewolf present. His voice, calm and fair, resonated through the night as he addressed his pack. But just beyond the circle of light, in the shadows of the trees, lurked Xander Blackthorn. His eyes, fierce and unyielding, scanned the perimeter for any threat to his brother. The pack knew better than to approach him; his reputation as the most rugged and non-approachable member of the clan was well-earned. It was this very demeanor that had kept him from finding his mate, a fate that seemed to weigh heavily on his solitary heart. As the alpha continued his speech, a sudden rustle in the bushes caught everyone's attention. Xander stepped forward, a low growl rumbling in his chest. The pack tensed, ready for whatever danger might emerge. But Alpha Blackthorn raised a hand, his calm demeanor never wavering. "Stand down, Xander," he said softly. "We are safe here." Reluctantly, Xander retreated, his eyes never leaving the shadows. The pack exhaled a collective breath, their respect for the alpha deepening. They knew that as long as the Blackthorn brothers stood together, they were unstoppable. Despite Xander's intimidating presence, his loyalty to his brother was unwavering, a bond that no one dared to question. But then, as the pack dispersed, Xander's eyes fell upon Thalia, a human who had somehow found her way into their world. For the first time, his steely exterior softened. There was something about her that drew him in, something that made him believe that perhaps his fate was not as solitary as he had always thought. His wolf inside him whispered "Mate" . All she could see was glowing olive green eyes piercing through the foliage.

"Why are you so cold to me?" Lo asked. She didn't understand it. This should be a blessing to them both. Tristan stopped at the threshold of the door. She could see his muscular form tense, his large hands clenched at his sides. A thick silence followed; it was almost suffocating. Lo felt as if she couldn't breathe. "I'm no colder to you than any other." He spoke without turning back. Lo felt like her heart was being slowly crushed. "But... we are-" Lo fumbled with her words. "Enough. You are a child; you can't possibly understand the complications of our situation." Tristan growled as he spun around. His dark green eyes met her crystal blues with a fierce look. "I... I don't understand. My mother said you would cherish me from the moment we met... until our dying days." Lo said as she felt the hot tears start to drip down her cheeks. She knew she was young and naive, but she was no child. She was nearly grown. "She was wrong. I'm already mated; I will not abandon her. My father wants you dead. I shouldn't have stopped him." Tristan said with an icy tone as he turned and slammed the door on the way out. Lo could barely get her breath. She felt crushed, and it was more than emotional. It felt like he had just wounded her soul.
