The "Age of Heroes."

That's what they called it in the textbooks. I wasn't alive when it began, but I heard stories. Stories of people suddenly discovering they could levitate when they tripped down the stairs, people getting a little too angry at their mobile game and shorting out their phone, people getting a case of 'hysterical strength' when their life was in danger but keeping that strength afterwards.

About 0.05% of the human population developed mysterious powers very suddenly around the early-to-mid 1900s.

It was to say the least, chaos. Supers abusing their power to commit crimes, some supers donning masks and trying to fight fire with fire, and a few just trying to lay low.

But that was in the past. Nowadays, we have the Hero Agency, an international organization recruiting supers to help combat criminal supers. It had all the flair and pizzazz of the 'golden age of superheroes,' as some older folks might say, along with actual funding from the Hero Agency.

"Well then what's the story?" you may ask. Everything did seem to be tied up in a neat little bow, after all. Well, I guess that all starts with me.

The universe run by Mothu is crazy. Powers run rampant in this world, and people can live over 10x longer than in ours. In this world, humans, over the course of millions of years, had made a reliable form of fast space travel. They had spread out and explored the universe, inhabiting and colonizing various planets. They found orbs, orbs that held immense powers. One of those orbs, the one of time was taken back to earth, as it was the first-place humans lived, so it got first dibs. Unfortunately, they tried to use the time orb to bring back people from the dead too many times. The orb malfunctioned and send the earth and its inhabits back millions of years to year zero. No one really cared and left earth stuck back in its past. The other orbs were taken and spread out between key planets, all of which were among the first planets to be colonized. They were renamed after the orb they received. Of course, peace was never going to last. People began fighting over the orbs that granted such wonderful powers. The fighting lasted for centuries. Around 500at (at=after time warp of earth,) Four people with enormous powers rose to the top and took all the orbs for themselves. They were eventually sealed away by a resistance group and the galaxy made a treaty to try to prevent such an event from ever happening again. Peace took hold once again and people freely traveled between planets. Security became more and more lax, people became more trusting again. All of this left the door wide open for one man to go on a mission to reclaim the orbs, in hopes of bringing back those four men...

"Stop pretending to be an idiot, idiot." Ouch. It burns. "You're starting to sound like a dear old friend of mine," she adds, her tone implying that her "friend" isn't so much of a "friend" as a mortal enemy who she probably also dragged into an alley on multiple occasions. Because she must be a fan of alley-dragging. Theater major. "I bet that friend was super amazing," I retort anyway. "She'd have to be to put up with you." Oh! Snap! I grin like an idiot at my own joke, realize how uncool that is, and then quickly rearrange my face into a frown. "I'm sorry. I don't quite understand. You're supposed to be a superhero, so why are you threatening a fellow superhero? Isn't that kind of against our code or whatever?" "You don't have a code. Superheroes who follow codes don't drop off information about people's allegedly dead sons at their doorsteps and then run." Well, can't say she doesn't have a point there. -- After being framed for the horrific murder of Birchwood City's most revered superhero's six year-old son, Maya Waterman abandons her super-villain persona and finds herself lost without any sense of identity and purpose. Being hunted by a vengeful super is hard enough, but after her employer fires her and she's evicted from her apartment, Maya begins to become something she had prayed she would never become again- helpless. She needs nothing less than a miracle to save herself, and much to her surprise, she gets just that-- even if it entails her trying her hand at becoming a good guy for once.

What happened if our world had people with superpowers? It's no longer the comics you read...It's reality. You know you aren't normal when you find out you can move things with your mind, make people believe and see the impossible- or anything that makes you different and not fit in with anyone. Some people may think having powers are for the better good. While others just use it as a destruction of the world or an advantage to have things that others can't have without having to go through trouble, meanwhile those who are curious have better plans. A strange and devious company is out to stop people with these abilities with the help of someone who is mad with power, while two strange men who use an abandoned church as a base try and find others like them to stop this company from destroying them. Follow these people with extraordinary abilities that you may learn to love in the end or just want to throw them off the face of the earth- and one in particular who is dying to be special...
