Mary Henderson had never forgotten that first time the upside down hit Hawkins, Indiana. With her brother and his friends right in the middle of it. The day they thought it was all over was the day that Mary swore to protect her brother no matter what happened in the small town of Hawkins. Now, come Halloween time, everything was changing again.

Billy Hargrove didn't really care for anyone but himself. He'd moved all the way from California to what he would call a "shit hole" in Indiana. He didn't know about the upside down in any way whatsoever. He didn't intend to find out either.

When he met Mary, he acted the same way he always did to a girl his age. He flirted as much as he possibly could. In doing so, he strayed farther from winning over the older Henderson. But something changed one night. But did it change for the better or worse?
