Alaska whipped around on him, and she could feel her face was beet red but she was willing to shove down the embarrassment of that for the sake of the argument.
"Maybe I am dishonest, Paul, but have you ever thought that there are things in my past that I consider sacred? Hm? Maybe I don't want to go spilling all the intimate details of my life to the guy who hangs around me out of *pity* because he *hit me with his car*!" she was almost shouting at this point, and she was sure that she would feel bad about it in the morning. But Paul had pried too far this time. His face softened briefly before closing back up again, a wall between them.
"I don't pity you Alaska, I enjoy your company. We all like you, I cannot understand why you're so determined to undermine that. Why do you think we brought you on this tour? We didn't even bring John's *wife*; it's not because we pity you."
