But Paul had pried too far this time. His face softened briefly before closing back up again, a wall between them.

"I don't pity you Alaska, I enjoy your company. We all like you, I cannot understand why you're so determined to undermine that. Why do you think we brought you on this tour? We didn't even bring John's *wife*; it's not because we pity you."
