Time is running out. The human race only has six months left to live.

Commander of the Founders: The Race Against the Flames continues our heroes, Didrika and Clarke's, story during the fall of Allie 2.0. Left with the heavy burden of Allie's declaration of human extinction, the new Heda and Flamekeeper face the impossible task of saving the world - again. However, saving the world may prove to be difficult as trust continues to fluctuate between the clans. Clarke and Didrika split up to find a solution in Arkadia and to keep the peace in Polis.

Polis has a new enemy that is gaining popularity among the clans. The enemies' one objective is to undermine Heda Didrika's reign before it can even begin. It forces Didrika to entertain betrayals and face the consequences of her past bloody tyranny as Foheda. Will Didrika be able to foster peace in time to get the clans to work together to prepare for Praimfaya?

Skaikru is reeling from their impossible task of finding a way to survive Praimfaya. There are no easy answers and Clarke faces obstacles from her own people that threaten her success. Her people are having a hard time adjusting to new leadership and the one person who is smart enough to find answers is in a foul mood. Will Clarke be able to muster the strength of Skaikru to create a plausible solution to Praimfaya?

After Mount Weather, Clarke Griffin can't bring herself to walk through the gates of Arkadia. For months, she wanders through the wilderness, tortured by the repercussions of the decisions she has made and haunted by the lives she has taken, and, in her final form of penance, she takes her own. Greeted by Death himself, he informs her of a soon to occur extinction-level event, one he calls Praimfaya, and he tells her that she is the only one who can save humanity. Long after she has taken her final breath, he returns her to life so she may serve her daunting purpose, and the aftermath of unnaturally crossing back through the veil that separates life and death manifests in powerful abilities beyond comprehension. A relationship that began as enemies, progressed to allies, and culminated in betrayal, grows into something much deeper, and, even in the face of imminent death, the love between two leaders grows stronger than ever. After vowing to remain by Clarke's side no matter the danger, with only five months to prepare for the end of the world, Lexa and Clarke search for solutions to save it together. Not even conflict pauses in the face of extinction, however, and with a terrifying creature wanting Clarke's soul, the queen of Azgeda wanting Clarke's head, and war brewing on the horizon, the task of stopping Praimfaya seems exponentially more impossible. Clarke's title of Wanheda, the Commander of Death, has never been more literal, and, with this new purpose of saving humanity, she can't help but wonder if the Commander of Death is capable of bringing anything other than that.
