FOREWORD

Crime is a fascination. And the thrill that arrives in the observation and understanding of crime, makes crime fiction a genre of great interest to readers. My main motive to write the genre of a crime thriller was an early association with books like Nancy Drew, Secret Seven, Hardy Boys, that slowly progressed to authors like Dan Brown, Jefferey Archer, John Grisham, Daniel Silva and television shows like Castle and so on.

'Thrill,' is more like a verb in crime, as crime forwards and puts into action, the feeling of thrill, an adrenaline rush that stimulates the curiosity and mystery in a reader's mind. This story is one of my initial attempts to explore my perceptions and develop my idea of criminal psychology and its presence in literature.
More greatly, the human psyche fascinates me. Not everyone who commits a crime is a criminal.

Sometimes, the motive of balancing something bad done to you (Revenge) deludes a criminal's mind. Sometimes, psychopathic tendencies overtake, and at others, a knack for giving justice at your own will. These are the things that make crime fiction a genre that requires intense understanding of human psychology, for the mind is a monitor of all our actions, and its complexities tend to create the many wonders, and dangers around us.
I hope my readers enjoy this short tale that also is a brief take on the genre of detective fiction. It was a pleasure and hours of great effort and learning writing this book.

When a white policeman shoots an unarmed black teenager, the faith and strength of two families are shaken and a Midwest inner city community struggles with all-too-familiar tensions. The city's lead investigator strives to control escalating protests, a middle school teacher tries to calm her frightened students, and a pastor sees a rare opportunity for his community's voice to be heard. The victim's friend feels the prison walls of gang and drug-related violence closing in, and the officer suffers under a burden of guilt and shame. But the heaviest decision falls on average-Joe hospital technician George Washington, who finds himself--gun in hand--face to face with the man who killed his son. Background: In 2014, I completed my first National Novel Writing Month challenge--in November, I wrote a novel with 50,000 words. I published the book, but never promoted it. No one wants to pay for something with no idea what they're going to get. So I'm going to post preview chapters. All my books are available on Amazon in both paperback and Kindle editions. What's this book about? When I first committed to writing a novel, I planned on doing one of my fantasy projects. But the death of Michael Brown in Ferguson and the resulting explosion of racial tensions dominated the news. What I saw online frustrated me. I knew that there was more to the story than any one side would likely present. Such complex issues aren't answered by sound bites and 140-character policy statements. I read up on aspects of culture I had no exposure to. I sought perspectives that wouldn't appear on my Facebook feed or regular web browsing. And I devoured some great books by Malcolm Gladwell that address human nature from an analytical angle using racial tensions and the civil rights movement as primary examples. I was amazed, moved, challenged, and inspired. And I knew that though I arguably have no right to say anything on the subject of racial tensions, I had to write this book.

Dan is hungry, cold and fascinated with the girl that broke into his apartment on a Thursday night. Maybe it doesn't correlate but he becomes a criminal. --------------------------------------------------- His mouth hung open, none of his high school classes had included a 'How to Confront a Possible Intruder Lurking in Your Shadows' course. He let the world fall to the forefront of his consciousness in those seconds; the fading sirens included. The cheese dust on his tongue sat sour, he could not be sure that this intruder was not related to their loud blaring earlier in the night. He swallowed the uncertainty. The intruder spoke first and they were not even polite about it. "Do you plan on finishing those chips or can I get some to go?" The voice had a noticeable soprano lilt to it, still, she sounded rough. Regardless, Dan frowned at her tone. That and the flutter of his heart as it recognized her voice. Dan's little sister had a habit of critiquing him, not always in a constructive way either. One thing she usually mentioned that she envied was his ability to recall details well; in her words, he 'majored on the minor but it only benefitted him'. He had never disputed her but he was not sure if having perfect recollection of the voice of a girl who threatened to drown him two years ago when he had inconvenienced her - he was not sure if that would benefit him. "Whether I finish them or not, if you want some you would have to sit with me, like a respectable guest, and we can share." Maybe it was the decision of a fool - but maybe not. He saw no other option but that of anyone in a situation they were inequipped to navigate; follow his instincts. A terrible idea, really.

"Please take me home" I no longer felt like going to work I didn't want my patient to see me devastated and terrified. After a few minutes we reached my apartment as I was about to get out he locked the doors I shivered feeling him turn towards me by now my eyes were glossy. I slowly turned to look at him the smell of blood was painted on him the tears rolled down my cheeks his thick thumb wiped them away my body was shaking I was terrified of this man when his skin made contact with mine my body tingled with a foreign emotion, I looked up at his eyes letting him touch me afraid he would kill me if I moved. "Goodnight my Queen" I shivered at the title he had given me, I was scared to the bone and I was not about to argue with him while he had a taste for blood the look in his eyes told me he still wanted more when he entered the car earlier on. He tenderly kissed my forehead lingering as my heart exploded I waited patiently and shut my eyes praying for him to remove his lips from my skin so I could go home. He finally did and when he unlocked the car doors I jumped out and hurried to my apartment not looking back at the devil in the car. I finally reached my apartment panting and shut the door sliding down my door crying hysterically, I could still feel his cold lips on me. What did I just witness tonight. What did I get myself into. I was scared of the future because I knew surely he would be back to check on his Queen.
