Growing up she always wondered why there was a trashy looking island outside of Auradon. Her mother and father tell her that's where the bad people stay. She was bullied by her sisters and used the island as her escape. She becomes a pirate of the island. As she grew up and learned of many stories, she learned the people of the island were villains and their children. Then she asked why the children were there when they did nothing wrong. Going into her teen/highschool years, she wanted to be able to spend more time with her friends from the Isle. Then Ben makes his first proclamation as king and four VKs are brought over. The VKs try to take over Auradon, but end up saving Auradon instead. Then, Mal leaves and something about Raaina seems a little fishy to the other VKs. When Fairy Godmother's Wand disappears and evidence of it being stolen by Carlos surfaces, Everyone (except for Audrey ironically enough) in Auradon blames and turn against Carlos and everyone votes to send Carlos back to the isle, including his own friends.
