"Elliott, are you ever nervous about all the possibilities... the possibilities of the people you love dying?" It seemed as if she had whispered it into the wind rather than me, her face tilted towards the infinite midnight sky dusted with glimmering stars. "Yeah, I think it's a bit scary knowing there are so many things out there we can't control. I guess we don't realize we can't control them. I don't know, kind of like how we use dreamcatchers. We believe they can keep our nightmares away but they really can't, 'cause occasionally a bad dream or two slips through. In the end all we can rely on is ourselves. I guess the difference between dreams and reality is that we can wake up and make the nightmares away, but the rest is out of our hands. Hope seems to be the only thing that keeps us going- hope and love." I was ranting, but I eventually noticed I had been mumbling because she didn't seem to be moving. The realization hit hard, and the darkness was suffocating. I bolted up and started shaking her. "SKY, SKY WAKE UP!" Frantically, I scrambled to check her pulse. I couldn't lose her now. Not after she just became my everything.
