Since she was a child, Kouri dreamed of having a dragon. Her family was poor and starving, if she found a dragon, she could save them. She could give them a better life.
At 13, she becomes desperate. She needs a dragon before it's too late to get into the Academy.
And then she finds one out in the desert and frees it from its chains. It seemed too easy. Too good to be true.
