Several people from England are randomly selected to bear the Runic Marks, each giving its bearer a unique ability, from bending fire to the bearer's will, all the way to speech with animals.
None of the bearers know what their runes mean, until one day, they all grow drowsy and fall asleep altogether, to be united in a dream world, where they all discover the purpose of their markings.
The story follows Clair, bearer of Hagalaz, the Rune of Hail.
