Sean and Finn Tierney, two brothers living in a small town in Iowa, face the difficulties of growing up during the great depression while their family struggles to hold on to a business and a farm. As the world edges closer to war, they choose different career paths. Meanwhile, their uncle Deklen stumbles into a dangerous situation that will change his life and the lives of all the members of his family. Both brothers join the military but in very different roles. Many little known stories of World War Two are revealed in the war exploits of the Tierney brothers. After the war, the brothers continue their lives, one as a military officer and the other as a farmer. In this book, the reader will discover some of the untold stories of the great depression, world war two and the post-war period. It was a fun and challenging book to write. My research took me in many different directions just as the story will take the reader in many different directions.

Upon This Waste

21 parts Complete Mature

Isaiah has felt ashamed and alone nearly all of his life. He earnestly wishes to break free from the chains that bind him: his tortured past, feeling unwanted and unwelcomed, an immensity of guilt, and the shadowy horrors of his own mind. Although those around him, his adoptive mother and war-torn comrades, wish to know Isaiah beyond and beneath his mask, he cannot even face the depths of himself for fear of the monster he believes waits there in the darkness. Upon This Waste is a historical fiction novel about Isaiah, a haunted youth facing the trenches and a prying companion in the final months of World War I. The narrative bounces back and forth between Europe's killing fields and his childhood on a Pacific Northwest Native American Reservation. There, Isaiah struggles to fit in with the tribe that has adopted him and refuses to reveal to them his mysterious past.
