During an active shooter situation, Jake Peralta feels afflicted between staying at his post, or protecting an old friend. Throughout the story (on even number chapters), Jake is plagued with flashbacks to his relationship with Y/N, his old friend, and ex girlfriend.
If you are triggered by death and suicide, the even number chapters are pretty wholesome, so if you'd like you can just read those, but the whole story ties together.
