As Maeve searches for a way to explain Abbadon's nihilistic magical system, she has to tread carefully around the territory's vicious man-eating birds, religiously-driven society and a buried, waiting threat.

But as war brews outside the glass city walls, Maeve's silent loyalty to a unique cast of characters might cause her to ruin the course of history - which she has sworn life and limb to preserve.

98 parts Ongoing Mature

Maeve is still adjusting to her new life with Will and Ander, steeped in monsters and violence. Her own powers are still a mystery to her. Fear holds her back from exploring what they are or what creature that might make her. Unable to resist Will's lust but still drawn to Ander, she tries to balance her relationships with them. Maeve is determined to prove that she might not be a soldier, but she can be just as useful in other ways. Will never expected the changes Maeve would bring to their lives or to him. He finds it harder and harder to fulfill his duty as a Soldier of Night. She touches a part of him he believed was dead, as he struggles with his own mind tearing apart. Fear for his cousin eats at him daily. Paranoia, for his betrayal, only adds to his own deteriorating mental health. Despite being an abomination, Ander gained Maeve's favor. It has changed everything and yet nothing. He seeks a deeper connection with her, but understands it will never be more because of who and what he is. Finding solace in his magic, he walks the razor sharp line between power and losing himself forever.
