Beth Hallaway dreams of being an adventure full of mystery, she dreams of solving a huge crime. But in the small town of Decorah, Iowa she believes she'll never get the chance. But she does try, she works as an intern in her towns police department and as a PI in her high school. So when girls begin to go missing, it seems to be Beth's chance of a lifetime. She begs her detective uncle, to give her a chance as a junior detective. He relents on the condition, that Beth works with a juvenile delinquent from her school, Dean Westwood who needs to do his community service. Beth agrees and decides to uses Dean's street smarts and his connections to her advantage. But when Beth and Dean stumble upon a mass grave with the missing girls and girls who weren't missing, things take a turn for the worse. Not only does her uncle practically take the case aways, but Beth begins to suspect the killer has plans far more devious then the police can expect. So when the police arrest a suspect, who Beth believes has nothing to do with the killings, Beth begins to fear that the killer is now after her.
