I looked at her face, trying to decipher the emotions behind her expression. There was no sadness, but something else that I couldn't quite pinpoint. 

"Is everything alright? Your marriage ended with your lover and began with me," I asked, hoping for some clarity.

"Do you want me to cry?" she asked, nonchalantly settling herself on the bed.

"No, not at all," I replied, smiling at her.

Her next words caught me off guard and sent a wave of unease through me. "Strip," she commanded, a smirk playing on her lips.

"What? I don't understand," I stammered,
 unsure if I had heard her correctly.

He looked up with disgust written all over his face but it seemed like Maithili couldn't care any less. She wiped her fingers and crossed her arms before showing a grin that screamed 'you won't believe it but I have a great idea'. "You can't marry me."
