After the huge defeat at the hands of the now evolved Godzilla, Mario and Co. meet the Queen Of The Monsters, Mothra, who fought Godzilla throughout the millennia. As she and her clan, the Houtua, assist them in reassembling, Grodus and Crump discover that they're harvesting Nanometal, the same material used to build MechaGodzilla.
