After a failed rescue attempt, the Corvinus sisters, Sunny and Jo, are trapped in the Ettrian palace with the dark king. A king who is slowly but surely going mad and thinks Sunny is his long dead love, back from the Afterworld. It's a race against time for them to escape before the king performs a sinister ritual that could bind Sunny to him forever.
Meanwhile, Seren Reed, a Watcher capable of seeing the future, informs his friends that they must find Sunny and Jo and travel to the Wastes, a lawless land of cutthroats and criminals. They must face monsters in both human and beast form in order to fight a growing darkness that threatens to devour all of Writhia.
