Crystal Kunz, an astronaut, is on board the International Space Station when it is struck by a micro meteorite, causing minor damage to the outside of the hull. When found, it is brought inside the station, and everyone on board the station holds it and takes a look at it. However, what they don't know is that it has a dormant strain of a gene-changing virus from space that infects everyone. When the first of them begins to get sick, they all think it's a normal cold, but as it gets worse and others get sick, with the same symptoms, NASA begins to worry and emergency lands everyone on board and puts them in quarantine. All the while, the virus is changing their genetic makeup. Crystal soon starts growing wings on her back throughout the sickness, along with Vincent Vuhad, another astronaut who was on board.
When close to death and given a tentative cure, Crystal and Vincent begin to recover from the sickness as their wings continue to grow. As they gather their strength back, the other four astronauts are given a new cure to cure the genetic changes and the sickness, but instead it does the opposite, making their sicknesses worse and killing them. Crystal and Vincent can't do much about them, but instead they throw themselves in learning how to fly with their new wings.
By the time they've gotten pretty good at flying, aliens attack Earth and kill every single human being on the planet.
Except them.
Join Crystal and Vincent as they run from aliens and go cross-country while trying not to die!
Inspired by @CrystalScherer's work Upon Wings of Change, this story takes place within the seven-year timeskip in the original.

No one ever said what would happen when dragons and aliens meet. And no one told me that I would be in the middle of it. Tasha was studying hard to get through her last year of university when she was kidnapped. She certainly didn't expect to wake up with four feet and wings. Mad scientists are bad enough, but things get even more complicated when aliens appear and wipe out the human race. Is there a way for her to hide her true identity in this new world while retaining her humanity? --------------------- Sneak Peek: I jumped over the lip of the tray and beat down hard with my wings. I had expected to only slow my fall; I had not expected to end up gaining so much height. I squawked in surprise and spread my wings wide in alarm before gravity regained its hold on me. With several awkward back-winging motions of my wings, I landed lightly on the floor. Well, at least I know my wings work. I glanced at the man in the corner as he was scribbling quick notes. I turned around to regard the tray again. They say practice makes perfect. With another hop and a single wingbeat, I managed to land in the sand tray with fanned wings slowing my momentum. So before anything is said, it is important to note that this story is a spin-off of CrystalScherer's upon wings of change. It is highly suggested that you read their story first before this one, but of course that is entirely up to you. Everyone knows about the government kidnapping people and using them in experiments that utilizes alien technology which transforms them into little dragonets. But what if there was more alien technology that was discovered elsewhere, technology which was quite different from that of the main project. Summary: The dragonets are flourishing; both those in the park and those helping the Kymari. As the first dragonets to hatch in the Kymari civilization, Tessa and her brother are paving a new path as they grow up and learn how to fit into the world. New beginnings are often great things, but sometimes shadows from the distant past come calling. Excerpt: I braced my feet against the wall as I pulled. Suddenly, the lever swung downward. I lost my grip and tumbled backward. I landed on my side and slid across the counter. My legs and tail flailed as I tried to get to my feet or slow down-but I didn't manage it in time. Almost in slow motion, my feet went off the counter as I slid into the air. Without thinking, my wings popped open and beat hard as I twisted, trying to turn right side up so I could fly properly. I blinked in shock when I realized I was already flying upward. Grinning triumphantly, I beat my wings again and went back to the counter.
