A dove represents peace, purity and love. Three traits that Gerard Way does not possess in his pitiful life. He'd refer to himself as a whore- an escort if you will. He dishes himself out to men in order to fund his art education.

Whereas frank Iero, his life was bland in comparison. He's the typical nice guy and a hopeless romantic but that's about it really. Until he stumbles into a certain coffee shop and just as if a flock of doves had descended this man from heaven themselves, he meets an angel. A tainted Angel nevertheless, but still an angel.
