This is where it all started.

Everything in Cassidy's surroundings seem to fade at that very moment. All she can see is the kit on her hand, and its taunting parallel violet lines. 

This must be my karma, she thought. How can it not be when the man she loved all her life just made it known to the whole world that he is marrying his one and only love. And unfortunately, the woman is not her, it will never be her. She was just his best friend and now, his mistake. A mistake he pleaded to never let his world know, a mistake he no longer want to have anything to do with. 

She clutched the kit tightly as tears silently fell on her face. Her chest constricting in pain, as if someone plunged a hot glowing knife in her heart and twisted it over and over and over again. She wanted to scream, to trash everything she can lay her hands on but she didn't. She sat still and instinctively touched her still flat belly. 

It isn't just about her now. No, not anymore. She has something far more precious than anything in this world growing inside of her. She might be his mistake but the life she's going to bring into this world will never be one, and she'll make sure of it.
