Jack Harkness knew it was going to be bad.
He always hated interdepartmental efforts - Torchwood worked best when they operated alone.
The last thing he wanted was to be in charge of the investigation into the explosion that rocked Cardiff. The blast killed everyone who was in the museum - all but one.
This doesn't scream "alien" to him, more like "terrorist".
But he couldn't be surprised after strongarming all the other government agencies into taking over their cases once he realized it was above their pay grade, that they'd dumped the case no one wanted to touch, right into his lap.
It doesn't take long for him to realize the more he digs, the less things make sense.
Is the pretty survivor more than a victim? Or just a victim of circumstances?
Jack isn't convinced she's the mastermind behind the attack in Cardiff, but he knows damn well she's hiding something - and he's determined to uncover her secrets.
He needs to get to the bottom of the mystery that is Madi Mason.
But can he do that before she steals something precious from him?

[Sequel to Trusting the Enemy] Two months have passed since Murdar and Shylah joined Torchwood Three. So far things had been pretty boring. No aliens, rift activity, not even hint of a Weevil sighting, and Owen and Shylah didn't appear to have any negative signs after being resurrected. [Torchwood fanfic] Fear was supposed to be behind The Outcast after the Timelords abandoned her in the 21st century. Left alone the half Gallifreyan tried living on her own, and she did for some time, until Torchwood found her. That's when project T.O.M. began and The Outcast became known as subject 20-15-13. After that everything went worse, the experiments, torture, insults, and then the Doomsday Invasion. That's where Outcast's story picked up again for the better, surprisingly, and with her unlikely friend they manage to escape with the chaos of Cybermen and Daleks around them. Will it grow worse for The Outcast once more when Torchwood Three finds her or will her distrust of Torchwood be changed? Her friend loved her new home, but Outcast wasn't one to trust others easily. In fact she just wants to leave the past in the past to find a better future away from those she hates, but of course when aliens attack it won't be easy to just leave Shylah behind to face the attack with the Torchwood members. Recently #3 in Holby City fan fiction! #15 in Ramin Karimloo tagged stories in January 2021! Note: This is a non-canon fan fiction that has Kian leaving Holby after his accident and developing a relationship with an original character. His drug addiction relapse, and the hospital shooting that leads to Jac leaving, don't happen. To give the story a nice closed ending, I added two bonus chapters. The second one features Jac.
